Canon Fodder

In this series, the icons of art history are fed to the appetites of pop culture. Laocoön clutches Magritte's pipe, Bernini's saint becomes a paint-spattered artist, and Mickey Mouse devours like Goya's Saturn. Painted with a realist's precision that gives way, in places, to deliberately loose brushwork, these works ask what becomes of meaning when the sacred, the canonical and the commercial are blended into one cultural slurry.
